Body Changing Scalextric?

Postby edd2402 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 12:23 am

Hi everyone.
Spoken to Graeme a couple of times regarding this but best option was just trial and error on my part.
Purchased two kits to combine as one pack for Xmas gift for son. He loves minis and I was thinking I could use scalextric body's as replacement body's as he loves minis... I WAS VERY WRONG.... Far too small and couldn't even adapt them to fit.
I have however managed to use an old 159 Alfa body by fly slot cars and using a dremil to extend the arches and remove all internal mounting points make a new body fully working with steering. (Will try and upload pics in min).
As far as I know... real fx cars arnt 1:32 as they are sized slightly larger (possible 1:30 or 1:28?) Can anyone help me in the hunt for 1,2 or 3 more body's that would need minimal adjusting to fit the standard chassis setup before Dec?
I would be hugely grateful for any hints or pointing in the right direction.

Well i have managed a second car also 350Z scalextric body.

Had to cut open the bonnet though which was a shame as the servo for the steering wasnt allowing the shell to sit low enough, but a bit of putty or clay and coloured will solve this.

Again no modifications to chassis or wheels, only to the replacement shell.

I think he will be chuffed with it on xmas day :)

Newest car body of a Bmw 3 Series Touring from Scalextric.

Was going to change the wheels over also, but they would have stuck our another 2mm beyond these wheels so didnt bother in the end.

Some different alloy optional upgrades may be a good investment for RealFx later down the line?

Hi edd2402,

you mentioned early in your post that your son loves Minis. I have 3 1/24 scale mini bodies which just may fit the bill. I've had a mobile 3 lane routed wood track for many years and collect any bodies I come across that might go well on it. The Minis were cheap radio control cars which I have converted to run on 32 scale slot car chassis but I think would probably fit the Real FX chassis as well. I have just ordered my first Real FX set which hopefully will arrive early next week, and I came across your post while researching them. When my set arrives I'll check them for sizing and if you are interested I can send you some pics. Might be a nice addition for this years Xmas present.
