3 Different Shells Custom

Postby edd2402 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 11:45 pm

Party to the forum post "Body Changing Scalextric?" i have managed to do 3 new bodys now so giving the final results for you.

It would be interesting to see what everyone else can custom make also, maybe lorries, mario karts, other cars etc.

Nice work! You should be proud.

I'm wondering if weight is an issue? Are these any heavier and if so, does it affect performance?

I want to do this as well but i don't know what car body to get to try make the conversion.
Any tips on what to look out for?

Hi guys.
Thanks for the comments :)

No the body changes arnt heavier or have any impacts on the turning or forward/backward movements as i widened and raised the arches.
Look too big of an arch when you look up close to them, but for what i was aiming for, they look ok.
As you can see on the 370z and the bmw, the wheels stick out a bit from the body :( nothing i could do about that but the alfa sits quite nicely. I did try to gently warm the arches and pull them out a bit but it was just too far a reach.

As to what bodys to use... only thing i did was complete trial and error. didnt even measure up just guessed based on cars in life having longer chassis (after realising that i had no chance at all with the mini shells).
In an ideal world maybe if you went to a local slot car shop with your realfx chassis, and asked nicley... they may let you eye up the chassis against the side of other slot cars so you could get the closet fitting ones.
Then a little dremil cutting/grinding should let you fit the bodys onto the realfx car without having to adjust the car its self.

Just a word of warning though, the servo cover in the front of the chassis is quite bulky and does hit the bonnet of the shells... this is why i had to cut open the 370z bonnet and mold a new one afterwards, but the alfa and bmw JUST fitted within.

Have a play round and get some cheap shells from ebay ;)

If i do any more i will post pics

I think it's clear these aren't 1:32, isn't it?

i dont think so. the original bodys are slightly larger which makes me think 1:30 maybe. i think 1:28 would be much bigger, but they arnt 1:32... cant be

I think the Real FX bodies are indeed 1/32 scale. Please keep in mind that 1/32 scale is in proportion to the real car body. The bodies that have been tried by edd2402 are smaller sedan type cars. I am fairly confident that a larger GT type body such as the NINCO Camaro body would fit the chassis better. If I have a chance, I will try to do a test fit to see how it will line up. In general, I would be looking for larger and wider, GT style cars. I am fairly big into 1/32 slot cars so will try to find some more suitable bodies.

Best regards,
Brian

Very true. scale is only represented by the size of the original/the model.

But the wheels are somewhat larger than that used in the models i used which made me think that the scale may have been larger.

I will still keep an eye out for different body's and post any more that i do.

Would like to see what other mods can be done if people post pics :)
