Track Editor

Postby Gacel » Sun Dec 21, 2014 11:56 pm

Hi,

I have written a simple track editor. Download here:
http://www.gacel.de/bilder/realfx/trackeditor.zip

Image

It is V0,1 Alpha, just a quick hack, so use with caution :)
There could be still some errors in the tile data. Some of the provided sample tracks do not fit exactly, like the Flyover 2 Layout with 4cm gap. But the 3 "K Pieces" in a row look suspicious, so I am not sure where the error is.

If requested I could do a MAC OS build.

Quick usage info:
- add a new Track using "Library -> New Track"
- edit the layout in the layout edit entering the letters or double click on the pieces
- edit the name
- save the track to the layout (and disk) using "Library -> Refresh" (F5)
- export a bitmap of the track using "Track -> Save as Image"
- you can zoom the track
- you can rotate the track using the "Heading" value
- match is green when the ends match, red if not
- count is green if the number of tiles are ok (edit the available count in the pieces.txt file, red if not

Some internals:
pieces.txt contains the data for all the pieces

All values in /100 cm and /100 degrees (100 = 1cm, 100 = 1 degree)

name -> display name
count -> number of available pieces
length -> distance between the middle of the start line and the middle of the end line of the piece
angel -> angel of the line start point > end point, for a straight this is 0, for a 90 degree turn this is 4500
heading -> change of heading for this tile, for a 90 degree turn this is 9000
letter -> optional, like angel but used for placing the letter on the piece
image -> file of the image used, start of piece at the bottom, 1 pixel = 1 cm (so the B straight is 32*53 pixels, must be horizontally in the middle (important for chicane etc)

Wow! I was just thinking how that would be really useful, but decided that I really didn't have the time to write one. Thank you.

We have some very talented people here.
Wish I could do this type of stuff.
Thanks for sharing Gacel im sure everyone will get some use out of it.

Are you ok with any feedback to improve the program? I haven't tried it yet, but thought id ask if you intend on updating it based on feedback?

Yes, feedback is fine.

There is of course a lot of stuff already planned that didnt make it into the first "proof of concept".
I am not sure when I can do updates (first Christmas and then I am on vacation 1. Jan. - 4. Feb 15), so feel free to test and post anything you find.

Graeme will provide me with exact measurements for the pieces, so the accuracy will increase.

Some Ideas and Bugfixes:
- editor for the piece counts (including "add pro set" Button etc)
- custom background colors, patterns and bitmaps (create a bitmap from your room layout and plan a exact track)
- autoupdate of the library (there were some technical issues...)
- import/export of tracks
- "auto close track with fitting pieces" (not sure how well this can work)
- better piece images
- automatic calculation of expected pace car round times
- support for the flyover graphics to see how long the bridge is
- flyover piece always above the crossing piece
- display sizes/distances

:) Thanks Jens. Very nice and working well.
Anything else you add will be a nice bonus, but it's very usable as it is, once you get used to the editing method.
Regarding improvements, If it was easy, one thing you could maybe add is an "undo" or allow "Control-Z" for when you have deleted a letter in the layout string

For anyone else who got a Starter set plus a basic expansion pack (which included some unexpected extras :) ), here's my pieces.txt and tracks.txt with the "count" updated and some of my designs. They are relatively simple to understand and update using a text editor.

Cheers,
Chris

This track editor looks really great! it would really help my son and I to design some fun layouts - if I could get a Mac build it would be really great ;)

Theoretically the MAC version should be just a quick build. I will try to do it before my vacation but time is running out. If I dont manage before, I will be back on 4th of february, so a little patience required. Maybe the pieces data from Graeme will be available then too for a big update.

Loved the track editor! I have a starter set plus a pro set track expansion. Did not had the time to check if I have enough pieces to do this, but here it is: Autodromo di Monza

Sorry, I don´t know how to upload an image from my computer.
